Dr Fabian, optometrist

 

Dr. Larry Fabian, O.D. graduated Cum Laude from California State University at Northridge, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Biology.  He earned an additional Bachelors and his Doctor of Optometry degree upon graduating Magna Cum Laude and class Salutatorian from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1980.

During his clinical externship, Dr. Fabian received the following awards: the California Optometric Association Auxiliary Achievement Award for outstanding general clinical abilities, the Vodnoy Vision Therapy Award, the Dow Corning Contact Lens Award, the Designs for Vision/Low Vision Award for excellence in working with the visually handicapped, and the Bernell Clinical Science Award for outstanding performance within the specialty of vision therapy.  In addition to these clinical awards, he also received the California Optometric Laboratory Research Award for research into applications of measuring the electrical activity in the visual portion of the brain.  He also was named to the Gold Key Honor Society for leadership qualities while in optometry school.  In 1980, Dr. Fabian was published in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges.

Following graduation, Dr. Fabian worked in a Southern California contact lens clinic specializing in designing cosmetic contact lens effects for the movies and television.  He was involved with many designs and fittings, the most well known being the green and white contact lenses used in the television show, The Incredible Hulk.

Dr. Fabian's career next led him to the U. S. Army Medical Service Corp, with which he was stationed in West Germany for 3 years.  During his assignment as chief of the clinic, Dr. Fabian organized and participated in one of the most active contact lens fitting clinics and one of the very few military clinics to offer a vision therapy program in its community.

During the past 30 years, Dr. Fabian has been practicing optometry in a multi-specialty practice in San Jose where he specializes in vision perceptual and developmental testing and therapy for school age children, contact lens fittings, and laser vision correction.  He educates parents and teachers on the topic of preventing vision related learning problems.  In addition, Dr. Fabian helps his patients understand the importance of good visual ergonomics when working in today’s more complex workstation environments.

In the time away from their professions, Larry and his wife, Caryn, enjoy snow and water skiing, camping, and are avid travelers.  Staying fit is a big emphasis in the Fabian family.  They have completed many 10Ks, half marathons, marathons, and triathlons.
